The Mega Health Camp Series, conducted by Assam down town University from November 9th to 13th, 2024, delivered essential healthcare services to students on campus and at local adopted village schools, such as Rajabari LP School, Bonda Anchalik ME School, and Panikheti ME School, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day and National Children’s Day with meaningful impact.
The camp offered complete health services, such as vision examinations with referrals to additional eye care, physiotherapy evaluations supervised by the teachers of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and tailored nutrition guidance from Food Nutrition and Dietetics teachers and students. Dental examinations that included instruction on oral hygiene and the distribution of hygiene kits to promote daily maintenance among schoolchildren. Blood pressure and random blood sugar checks aided in the early detection of hypertension and diabetes, with follow-up advice on lifestyle changes for those at risk.
Under the supervision of teachers, university students actively participated in the event as volunteers, obtaining hands-on experience in patient assessment, data recording, and counseling. Students' abilities to provide health services and engage with the community were improved by this practical experience, which also instilled a feeling of social responsibility. Overall, the Mega Health Camp Series successfully achieved its goals of raising health awareness, delivering preventive screenings, and cultivating a culture of community care.
